It is with great regret and sorrow that I must notify you of the death of our classmate, Dan DiCarlo, at the Hackettstown General Hospital on June 5, 2006 after a long, courageous battle with cancer and other related medical problems. Jan, Dan’s wife, Dana, their daughter, Danny, their son, and Tommy, Dan’s sister, along with a number of close friends were with Dan at the hospital. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday, June 7, and 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM on Thursday, June 8, at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. The funeral service will be on Friday, June 9, at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 305 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. A graveside service will be at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, June 14, at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY. A reception will follow. Condolences may be sent to the family at 300 5th Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dan may be made to the Joan Knechel Cancer Center, 657 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 or the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ. A played golf with Dan and enjoyed his sense of humor and his shill ( skill ) ? as a golfer. I regret to hear of his death and add my condolences to that of his classmates.
John Crosby Obituaries: Daniel M. DiCarlo Jr., lighting firm co-owner, Reagan 84 directorA Mass for Daniel M. DiCarlo Jr., 67, of Hackettstown and Sanibel, Fla., a businessman whose firm produced specialty lighting for historic locales, and a prominent figure in the Republican Party, will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in St. Marys Church of the Assumption, 305 High St., Hackettstown. Arrangements are by the Cochran Funeral Home, Hackettstown. Mr. DiCarlo, who died Monday in Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, was co-owner, with Gil Hallenbeck, of Area Lighting Research Inc., which was originally opened in 1967 in Hackettstown. The company manufactured and distributed photoelectric controls and electrical energy-saving devices, both domestically and worldwide. The firm produced the coach lamps in Central Park in Manhattan and on the streets of New Orleans, the square globes of Grant Park in Chicago, the lights on the Freedom Trail and in Faneuil Hall in Boston, on the Lafayette Promenade in Washington, D.C., and on countless bridges and tunnels throughout the country. Mr. DiCarlo attended Carnegie Mellon Technical Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa., for a year until he won an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where he graduated in 1961. While serving in the Army, Mr. DiCarlo attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., and served in Texas, Missouri and Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a communications specialist and Airborne-qualified and attained the rank of captain. Mr. DiCarlo was a campaign director for former Congressman James Courter and the executive director for the Reagan/Bush presidential campaign in New Jersey in 1984. He was appointed by President Reagan to serve on the Christopher Columbus Commission in 1992 to plan and execute the celebration surrounding the 500th anniversary. He served on the boards of directors of Skylands Community Bank, the West Point Association of Graduates, the Hackettstown Planning Board of Adjustment and the Panther Valley Golf and Country Club in Allamuchy. A native of New Castle, Pa., Mr. DiCarlo lived in Hackettstown for many years and also maintained a home in Florida. Surviving are his wife, Janet; a daughter, Dana DiCarlo Plank; a son, Daniel M.
