John J. Jack Nichols 4/2/38 10/21/98 Company H-1 |  |
It is with much regret and deep sorrow that we report the passing of John J. (Jack) Nichols, Company H-1, USMA Class of 1961. |
Jack passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, 21 October, in Zionsville,
Indiana, of an aneurysm. Jacks wife, Gisela, died in January 1997 of cancer. He is survived by a brother, George M. Nichols. |
Jack was born April 2, 1938, and entered West Point from New York. Upon
graduation, he was commissioned in the Signal Corps. After leaving the Army in 1975, he worked for Detroit Diesel Allison. From 1979 until their deaths, Jack and Gisela devoted their lives to Giselas Kaffekranzchen,
an upstairs German restaurant with creaky floors, white-clothed tables, and colorful Bavarian mementos. Just one week before he died, Jack told one customer that 1998 had been the best year ever for Giselas Kaffekranzchen. |
And when our work is done,
Our course on earth is run,
May it be said Well done;
Be thou at peace. |
Well done, Jack. Rest in peace. |
