Central Arkansas – Douglas MacArthur
West Point Society
The dinner outing on October 2, 1998 was very successful with a good turnout. In addition to obtaining information on the August West Point Society President and Class Leaders Conference, Major Bob Bishop, ’79, provided an outstanding presentation on his assessment and his experiences from Bosnia. As a Civil Affairs expert, his insights were extremely interesting for those attending and questions were plentiful.
Thanks to the Army football team, we were able to get an early Christmas present. A good number of the Society’s membership gathered at Bailey’s Sports Grill to share the camaraderie of the event and to combine their strength with the USMA Parents Club to oppose the USNA Parents Club and the Navy Association who were also in attendance. It was a spirited crowd, lots of TVs, and a loud competition of "Anchors A Weigh" vs. "On Brave Ol’ Army Team" when each side scored. There was even a push up contest. It was a great way to enjoy the Army Team’s victory over Navy. It was definitely worth a repeat for next year. Mark your calendars and let’s get an even larger turnout.
The final event for December was participating in the All Academy Banquet at the Excelsior Hotel. It was good to have so many members turn out for the occasion and take advantage of the opportunity to meet the Cadets, Midshipmen, and the Air Force Cadets from Arkansas.
Mark your calendars for Founders Day. Assembly will be on March 12, 1999 at the Maumelle Country Club. We’ll have a speaker from West Point’s Staff. I look forward to seeing you there.
