History
The society is named for Arkansas native, and West Point graduate,
General Douglas MacArthur. General MacArthur was born at the Little Rock
Arsenal in 1880. General MacArthur's life emulated the West Point ideal
of Duty-Honor-Country. At his "Farewell Address," delivered to
the Corps of Cadets on May 12, 1962, he stated:
"Duty-Honor-Country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate
what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. they are rallying
points. To build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when
there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes
forlorn."
