| More than 8,000 USMA graduates, friends, prospective cadets, parents of cadets, interested citizens, etc. have visited the Association of Graduates web site and signed up for one of our three e-mail newsletters: First Call, Herbert on Sports, and Gray Matter. These newsletters provide timely updates from West Point with each having a different purpose. |
- Gray-Matter
The Return of the Phoenix: George H. Derby, Class of 1846, was wounded and brevetted for bravery in
the Mexican War but found greater fame as a writer and humorist. As the
unofficial editor of the San Diego Herald in 1853, he transformed it by
his wit and humor. Later, writing under the pseudonym of "John Phoenix,
Esquire," he is believed to have influenced the writings of "Mark Twain."
While making no claims to the literary or humorous abilities of these two
writers, beginning in 2003, we hope that J. Phoenix, Esquire, will rise
again to the delight of readers of Gray Matter. Our own VP for
Publications, Jay Olejniczak, will guide GM into your hearts and minds in
the future.
- Herbert-on-Sports is a sports summary from the corridors of Herbert Hall by our in-house USMA sports expert, COL (Ret.) Morris J. Herbert 50. Morris has long been contributing sports information on a regular basis to many graduates and friends of West Point through word of mouth and his private network. Now, he has responded to the call of the information age to expand his readership by agreeing to write a short summary of USMA sports highlights by e-mail newsletter. COL Herberts unbiased reporting will give you another perspective on the fields of friendly strife.
- First-Call (formerly Recall), the newest e-newsletter of the Association of Graduates. The newsletter is designed to supplement ASSEMBLY magazine in keeping you up to date on West-Point related events and people. A product of the AOG's Alumni Support Office, it will be published at the beginning of each
month.

So, how does one get on the list? Visit our Online Signup page.
| Occasionally, we have information that should be distributed to as wide an audience as possible. In these cases, we take all the e-mail addresses we have on file in our AOG database, create a list named Long-Gray-Line, and then send the message. Because you control which address you use to get on/off the newsletter lists above, being on those lists does not guarantee you will get the Long-Gray-Line messages. The only way to get on the Long-Gray-Line list is to ensure your e-mail address is up-to-date on the AOG database. This is done through a variety of methods, but the most effective is to use the Grad Login Area of the AOG Homepage with your Cullum number and password. While there, you can view and update the rest of your contact information. |
