Colonel Nagl gave a talk entitled "Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Vietnam and Iraq."  The slide set does a good job of summarizing his remarks.  Also, a recent article of his in the Armed Forces Journal echoes many of the key points of those remarks.
