Order of the British Empire
is Conferred on Kaufman '68
On
May 30th 2006, BG Dan Kaufman, former Dean at USMA and now college
president extraordinaire of Georgia Gwinnett College,
was made an “officer of the most excellent Order of the British
Empire.” The ceremony took place in the British Embassy
chancery in Washington,
and the award was presented by the British ambassador himself. Dan was
granted the award on the basis of his work as Professor and then Dean at USMA
to deepen USMA’s ties to the UK through cadet exchanges, emphasis on Rhodes, Marshall, and Truman
scholarships, and in many other ways. Dan shared the stage with General
Michael “Buzz” Mosely, Chief of Staff of the USAF
(who was knighted), and David Thomas Green, a physician and inventor of an
array of patented arthroscopic surgical devices. Quite an honor, and quite a ceremony.
