It is 4 Dec  00 as   I begin to type these Notes. Hopefully the mass of e-mail since my last submission of Notes will begin to take on `some sort of  reason that may be reflected in my writing! Unfortunately, since my  last Notes submission   I’ve received only two letters and two photos - from Bill  Porte and Lanny Witt. (See last photo below  of Lanny, his new CPT gson and latter’s bride Loren)  The photo of Bill with  Jack Wright show them both in fine fettle but especially Jack from his daily regimen of 70 push-ups! . Bill has completed arrangements for the Bicentennial Mini at Palm Desert CA 11-15 Nov 02. It’s good Bill planned to share the Mini load with such hearties as Jack Wright, Sam Webster and possibly Mark Klunk as Kathy’s 4 Dec e-mail reports Bill back in ICU Let’s pray for his prompt recovery to his energetic normal self.

Got an e-mail from Frank Coleman in Panama City FL forwarded by Steve Morrissey Frank has been enjoying our class net traffic. This time he reported a new item on the Fl election irregularities which he hoped was not true.  The one response that I recall from Susan Pollard (Vic Conley’s daughter) as a volunteer at a precinct in Lee County FL gave a picture of the carefully correct ballot handling followed in that precinct.  So not everybody got it wrong!

Photo - Jean & Thad Nosek our past prez at the 60th.

Our prez, Kerm, found time to tell us about some of the social activities of the DC contingent ( we would love to write  similar information from other groups elsewhere in the country!) George Mayo, the perennial host for Fall Luncheons at Belle Haven CC did it again and once more a goodly number of the contingent were the. A remarkable number of class widows no doubt at the encouragement of Betty Parker came among whom were: Christine Sleeper, Dot Manzolillo and  Lys Scott. Widower Chuck Noble  brought his daughter and Lee Cagwin’s daughter Ronnie came on her own from Carmel, CA(she won a package of Sam Webster’s pistachios for having come the greatest distance  to attend.)  Jeanne & Dean Vanderhoef won honorable mention for driving from Charlottesville, VA! Jean & Thad Nosek showed a great video tape of class activities at the 60th at WP.  Classies wishing copies of the tape should let Thad know. I’m sure the cost will be nominal! The next annual event of the DC contingent will be luncheon at the Belle Haven CC 22 Apr 2001

Photo - Bev & Jack Dibble at the 60th.

Freddie White’s tally of the class wishes on he disposition of the class Gift fund were as follows:  Cadet Act Endowment Fund 151; Contrib to Bicentennial Fund, 128 ; New Add to Michie Stad, 107; Cdt Mrkmnshp Complex, 65; Normandy D-Day  Staff Ride, 35.  Class Board on these “wishes” will be forthcoming.

Photo - Jean Patten, Casti & Amor Castillo at 60th.

The Fall issue of  the AOG news letter Front & Center  for class leaders contained about Reg Clizbe who lost most of his gear in England in ‘42 when his squadron of  Douglas A-20s was ordered secretly to Port Lyautey, Morocco for a role in the Invasion of North Africa.  58 years later a USAF Sgt Scott Jones stationed at RAF Molesworth, UK found a WP textbook Tactics and Technique of Infantry marked “Cadet Clizbe, Co B, USMA. The SGT’s efforts to locate Reg led to AOG’s Tony Ferraiuolo who called Reg . By mutual e-mails arrangements were made to return the long missing textbook to Reg. More than an interesting anecdote it tells us that Reg is alive and kicking out in his retirement home in Spokane, WA. Maybe he will let Steve Morrissey (our webfoot) know  his e-mail address or even join our class net!

Frankie Devlin called early in Nov to report he had completed his move  to his Florida condo; No doubt there a few boxes of stuff still looking for a permanent hangout in Hillsboro Fl. but there will be no more semi-annual treks north for the summer. Frank had called TJ Wells our E Co tac for four years. T J seems to be in great shape for his  94 years. His voice was strong and clear and he was most interested to know of  the status of his brood of cadets more than 60 years since graduation!

Thanks to Steve Morrissey’s roll call msg to those on the net a number of  warm bodies responded to confirm their existence among them being Don Baumer our erstwhile mini host at Inisbrook FL. Like many others of us he defers to wife Sandy as the family computer operator! Bill Porte at bkporte@msn.com and Jack Dibble  at colonel61117@aol.comhave joined the class net. Among the many holiday greetings received from the class net was one from Dudley Maxwell which mentions an essay he had written titled  “Listen to your Body.”  Dudley offered copies to those wishing same. He found we need a positive attitude, regular exercize,  and a good diet - practice of moderation and common sense! Dale Epley advises he an Ruth are “on board” in response to Steve’s query.  Dale reports Pauline Belt’s health is not good; wonder if Dick is still an income tax volunteer? Better news is that Betty Parker has recovered from eye surgery and ditto Bob Brewer from serious by-pass surgery. Hear also that Allan Crockett is in the Pensacola area  recovering from his second knee replacement!
