The Class Board met 18 Jan 01 and among other thing reviewed the class preferences for the disposition of the class Gift funds. The Board decided to turn over to AOG all of the class gift money for the Cadet Activities Endowment Fund. This was in accord with classmate responses to Freddie Whites letter to the class on the subject. Class treasurer Bob Cassibry reports the Gift Fund Balance to be $164,398.79; Class Admin Fund , $14,430.11.Freddie was also designated as Class Historian
Over the net we learned of winter travels of a few; for example, Fran &Bob Brewer and Bobbie& Kerm Dyke? to Sanibel. FL; hope Marnie & Dick Kent were also there. Sally & Mac Lemley reported to be off the net until Oct for two weeks in Guatemala and Costa Rica after which they will moving their base to King and Queen County, VA Heard from Doris & Luther Arnold on their trip to CA where they saw Janet & Mike Bavaro. Mike has just had hip replacement that he is learning to deal with .Good luck, Mike and Janet!
Through kind words of Jeanne & Allan Crockett we learn about many things both N and S of the Mexican border. It’s obvious they have not gone to seed in their Mexican paradise! Their assistance at the local library and in other volunteer activities are most commendable. Through Steve Morrissey we learn of Therese & Jack East’s 60th wedding anniversary this year.A surprise celebration is being planned secretly by his 4 “kids” for 10 Mar 01 in San Francisco. Celeste & Frank Sullivan similarly belatedly celebrated their 60th in Albuquerque over Christmas with their extended family and others like a grade school best friend.
From Sam Patten comes word that Mary and Joe Couch residents of the Fairfax in Belvoir Woods have moved into the Health Care Center of the Fairfax where their health needs can be better met. Thanks to Dean Vanderhoef we now have the address (reported below with other address changes) for Jean Gregory Osborn(Ralph’s widow) Both Jean and Dean have a common need as users of electric scooters for serious getting around! Lucille & Ray Renola continue to report an active travel agenda; both attended the reunion of Ray’s WWII Bn in Indianapolis, then visited NYC as a mutual Christmas present. Before that Lucile went to the Greek Isles with her tennis group. From 4 Jan through mid May will follow their regular routine at their place in Fort Lauderdale!
Bob Williams sent those on the net some very helpful information on the changes in DOD medical plans which effective 1 Oct will let us in on Tri-Care for life. Critical to eligibility is that we be enrolled in Medicare Part B and that our records in the military DEERS are up to date. Checking our DEERS record is pretty easy for those with access to a military base and should be done well before 1 Oct 01. Ann & Paul Reinecke e-mail hat they were able to update theirs simply by calling the retirement services officer at the post (Fort Jackson in their case) handling Army retirees where you live. Every one of us residing in the US has a military post with an RSO looking after us or at least available to call or write about retiree matters such as updating our DEERS file!
