As promised, here are some more photos taken by host Jack Dibble at the Florida mini-reunion.

Photos #1-7

There was a meeting of the class officers on 21 March at the Ft. Myer O Club. Present were Kermit Dyke, Fred White, Stew McKenney, Bob Cassibry, George Mayo, Betty Parker, and Mel Rosen. Bob Cassibry reported that the class administrative fund is in good shape with a balance of  $12,124.41 as of 28 February. There was more discussion about a mini-reunion on a cruise before the proposed reunion at the dedication of the WWII Memorial in 2004.

Bob Gildart ’37 reports that brother, Bill Gildart, had a second heart surgery in January. Bill had a triple bypass and is recovering nicely. Edith is doing well.

The publication people at ASSEMBLY write about the success of their recent subscription solicitation including a new experimental four-year subscription option. At my age, I don’t even buy green bananas, so I’m not optimistic about how successful such an option would be for our class and earlier classes. At any rate, please encourage classmates who do not subscribe to ASSEMBLY to do so. The publication people also have several thousand of the beautiful 2002 West Point Daybook and the 2001 Bicentennial Calendar with CD-ROM available at reduced prices.

Jeanne & Allan Crockett report via the class net that as of 19 April, they will be traveling and out of the net until about the end of May.

The DC contingent met at a class brunch at the Belle Haven Country Club on 21 April. There were 35 in attendance. As usual, George Mayo did a great job with the arrangements.

Eleanor Abbey passed to me this photo of her and Joe Donohue taken at the reception at the Belle haven Country Club following Dick Abbey’s funeral. Joe and Dick were classmates at prep school before West Point. Joe is also the godfather of the Abbeys’ daughter, Mary Ann. Joe also became the godfather of Dick Abbey when Dick converted to Catholicism at West Point.

One of the problems in writing this column is that, as I write it in the middle of April, this is for the July/August ASSEMBLY. Another big problem is that it is in danger of becoming a report on the DC contingent unless you outside of the DC area contribute items about yourselves and/or others.

Taps. Rollie Hamelin died in Honolulu, HI, on  4 Nov 01. He was cremated. No other information is available at this time.

Eleanor Burke White, wife of Fred White, died peacefully on 15 April at Fairfax, VA. She had Alzheimer’s disease. Eleanor had been a dental hygienist before her marriage to Fred. She had been a Red Cross volunteer and did volunteer work with St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax City. She and Fred had been married more than 60 years. Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery on 1 May.
