It seems later and later a each Notes deadline approaches that I begin to get serious with the writing task before me. My excuse for the broken shoulder in Oct 99 is no longer valid. Fortunately, the class members active on the class net provide much information to read and consider for my Notes. It's good to see that our webmaster's efforts to recruit additions to the list is paying off. Happily the numbers of frequent responders and initiators has likewise grown so that quite a bit of dialogue has developed among the group. May the term should be "multi" log. The exchange initiated by Steve Morrissey of Howitzer pictures from our cadet years is an example of what I mean. Incidentally , all photos in these Notes were taken at the Capr Cof Mini.      By now most of us will have responded to the 28 Dec 99 letter from our 60th reunion committee. Most who intend to come should have long since made reservations at the Thayer and should have firm travel arrangements. One thing apparent already is that New York City area is as close as one can get to WP by air since the major air lines no longer serve Newburgh air port. (Insert Photo # 2 here)

It may be difficult for the committee to come up with a list of attendees before April. some time since the dead line for submissions to the committee is 31 Mar. The e-mail traffic to date(17 Feb) shows some concerns about travel; for example, what's the best way to get from New York City to WP? That question was serious to Ross Milton and Casti Castlllo. We do not want Ross to miss his first reunion since graduation. And Casti , after traveling across the Pacific and the USA with his parents wants to get them all safely out of New York City to WP! Rental car from NYC airports seems to be the answer for all those planning to fly from their residence state. Even for AMTRAK travelers the closest stop for WP is Grand Central Station. The Morrisseys are traveling AMTRAK but have a cadet grandson to meet them in the city to drive them to WP!

Another matter is a reader survey by AOG will have probably already been sent to each Assembly subscriber seeking reader evaluation of the its contents, possible changes, renewal matters and computer capabilities. Separately, non-subscriber graduates will be sent a somewhat different survey. Please give your best effort for a prompt and meaningful response to these surveys.)Inset Photo # 3 here)

Thanks to the initiative of Bryce Denno and Bill Porte an article on our class as a model pre-war WP class will appear this Spring in feature article in the Armed Forces Journal. Bryce has appealed to the class on the E 0net for stories about class mates that should be considered for the forthcoming article. The deadline of material to Bryce is 1 Apr! Hopefully the E net people will spread the word on the need to our non E net folk. I talked to Bill Porte the other day and find he is still support the effort despite his being in recovery from the heart attack he suffered while on a cruise to Australia. Bill's travel is pretty restricted with his being on oxygen most of the time. He still is hoping he'll be able to make the 60th.(Insert Photo #4 here)

Thanks to the true diligence of our webmaster, Steve Morrissey, the class E list has crept up to 52 grads plus 11 family(widows, children etc) for a total of 63 workable e-mail addresses. Among the most recent additions are Bob Cassibry, Sue Dewitt(widow of Jack) and A J Russell. Others like Carey O'Bryan have cleared up the confusion in syntax there may have been about his address. Guess that 's the reason most e-mail addresses are written as one word with no spaces! Anyway all is forgiven since Carey was able to provide status on three other classmates residing in the Albuquerque area - Frank Watrous, John O'Brien and Bob Fate Alive and kicking to about the same degree as the rest of us octogenarians. Wonder if any besides the O/Bryans will make the big R at WP? (Insert Photo # 5 here)

Before taking off for three weeks in Sanibel FL, Kerm & Bobbie Dyke e-mailed a schedule of activity for the DC contingent for most of the year. - Sun 9 April Brunch at Belle Haven Country Club; 60th Class reunion at WP 21-24 May; USMA-USNA 40 luncheon at A-N Club tentative mid Sep; and finally, the Annual Fall Brunch at Belle Haven CC late Nov or early Dec. No doubt the time in Sanibel will be happily filled with activities with other classies visiting or living on the west coast of FL like the Kents, the Lanes, Fran Nuelle, the Cassibrys, and possibly the Abbeys, the Devlins and Renolas from the east coast of Florida.

It seems appropriate to take note of the most active members of the class E net with helpful hints to the less skilled with computers or in bits of humor for our general enjoyment. Bill Smith scores on both counts - sharing his extensive computer skill and many more bits of humor. Connie Hughes can not be surpassed in the number of funnies she has passed on the net as well as a number of "pomes". Alan Crockett contributes a lot with his wry comments on many subjects and his informative items on expatriate life in Mexico.(Insert Photo # 6 here)

SICK AND DISTRESSED: Dean Vanderhoef and Kiki Goodwin reported by E on the Cuyler Clarks who moved to a retirement community in Colorado Springs Bill is not well but Ann is fine despite the effects of too many years of smoking. Earlier(Nov 99) Dean reported Scott Case's starting for prostate cancer. Let's hope for a successful outcome for him and Priscilla. Molly Pillsbury E-mailed in late Jan that Joe Mastran was on a ventilator in ICU at Alexandria, VA, hospital - Hope Joe is well recovered by now. Lanny Witt's wife Nora he advised from Scottsdale AZ Jan 21 had successfully undergone cancer surgery: our prayers are with them for her prompt and complete recovery.
