HISTORICAL NOTES FILE, CLASS OF 1940

Dating from July, 2002

INTRODUCTION

Appended to the Class Notes Archives of this Class Home Page, the following notes are intended to reactivate and augment the Class record to date.  They supplement what were previously called “Class News,” --the few items dating from 1997, above.

The notes, below, will serve as models for an open series made up of relevant historical facts submitted by classmates (or family).  The Class Historian will pass on any further entries, this requirement being necessary to insure that submissions are valid and appropriate.

The notes are seen as brief but essential information about the Class otherwise not recorded in separate Library documents. Cumulative over time (had they begun in 1936), they would tell the full history of the class from Plebe Year to the final year.

THE “ALMA MATER”

Paul S. Reinecke, Jr., Class of 1940, was the son of Paul S. Reinecke, Class of 1911.  Reinecke, Senior, wrote the words to “The Alma Mater.”

CLASS OF 1940 ON THE INTERNET

The Class Home Page (http://www.aogusma.org/class/1940) was started in August, 1997, pursuant to the efforts of Class President Kermit R. Dyke and Vice President Stewart L. McKenney.  Webmaster from that date: Stephen B. Morrissey (sbm1914@cox.net).

A Class e-mail network, originally 20 members, currently (July, 2002) numbers 70 addressees, of whom 13 are widows or family members.  A master server-computer  located at the Association of Graduates (AOG) at West Point operates the remailing of member messages sent via the Class address (classof40@aogusma.org).
