RECEIVING THE FLAG: John Jr. became a prisoner of war during the Japan occupation of the Philippines and perished there when a POW ship was bombed his remains lost at sea. No military honors had ever been accorded him. A memorial service with full honors was conducted at Arlington National Cemetery in October, 1996. In this picture, John and Barbara are being presented the memorial flag by Chaplain Ed Maney 75. The service was also attended by a few of John Jr.s 35 classmates. |
