Website Class Gift Update November 2002 |

It has been eleven months since our last fundraising status and we do well with both projects - Thayer Walk and Arvin Physical Development Center. The Thayer Walk project is basically done with over $1,300,000 raised and $55,800 in outstanding pledges. The only area that remains to be completed is a maintenance endowment that is still under negotiation and should not exceed $50,000. While the project is almost done, we need to finish the fundraising effort. If you have outstanding pledges, please complete them as quickly as you can. The Arvin Physical Development Center, while behind schedule, has finally started. As Fred reported in his May letter, Bob Doughty and his committee have done an outstanding job with the design. More importantly, Bob has been instrumental in helping to make sure costs were kept on budget. Currently, with all project areas contracted and barring the unforeseen, the maximum we will pay for the Arvin project is $975,000. This estimate is reasonably firm and includes all of the Design Committee recommendations. Again, where do we stand. Within the next month, over $900,000 will be required by the project manager. As of the end of October the Arvin account had $662,000 in receipts and $300,000+ in outstanding pledges (written and verbal). The shortfall of $300,000+, while covered by shifting funds from the Thayer account, leaves us behind in our Arvin fundraising. Please do what you can to complete your pledges as soon as possible. For those of you who have not had an opportunity to contribute or pledge, a pledge sheet is attached. One more point, if you are working for a company that has a matching gift program take the time to fill out the paperwork. It's a great way to leverage your gift. Again, our Class has generously supported the Academy. This support ensures West Point retains its "margin of excellence." What we contribute to the Arvin Center adds significantly to the project and is a fitting tribute to Bob’s memory. Thank you. Best,
Enclosures as Harry
