WE HAVE CENTRALIZED AND CONTINUE TO IMPROVE our program for collecting and disseminating information relating to the deaths of graduates. The following are the current features:

  1. A focal point for providing information. Most classes are using their Class Scribe as the point of contact and source of notification to the AOG. We welcome information from any source. To report a death, e-mail death notices to dns-report@aogusma.org or call 800 232-4723, ext. 1617. The phone number and e-mail address are specific to the Death Notification Program and will be answered by someone else in her absence.

  2. Notification is made to all members of the class who have e-mail addresses through the Death Notification System (DNS). Recipients have the option to be deleted from the notification process if they wish. Notification also is provided to the staff of the AOG, the Chairman, the Superintendent, USMA, and West Point Society members in the geographic area of the deceased. The notification is targeted for dispatch within 24 hours from the time we receive notification.

  3. Attempts are made to collect all pertinent information relating to the death. At a minimum, we desire the date of death, place of death, place of interment, name and address and telephone number of the next-of-kin, and cause of death.

  4. A letter of condolence from the President of the AOG is mailed to the next-of-kin.

  5. A confirmation/notification e-mail message is sent to the Class President/Chairman and the West Point Society President in whose geographic area the deceased had lived.

  6. If a funeral is subsequently scheduled for West Point:

    1. A member of the AOG Executive Staff attends and presents a condolence card from the Chairman of the AOG.
    2. As schedules permit, a member of the Cadet Heritage Society presents a condolence card in the name of the Corps of Cadets.
    3. A telephone or e-mail contact is made to at least one classmate, if there is one living in the geographic area, to provide notification of the death and information about the burial.

  7. A letter is sent to the next-of-kin by the Publications department requesting the submission of a memorial article for publication. Information and guidance for writing the article is provided (see Section 8).

  8. The deceased name, class year, date of death, and place of death is placed in the “Last Roll Call” section of ASSEMBLY magazine.

  9. Additional support, as requested, is provided to next-of-kin, family members, and/or classmates.

  10. Information is ultimately placed in the deceased’s Cullum File (see Section 7).
