GUIDELINES FOR “SOCIETY NEWS”

Each issue of ASSEMBLY magazine features several pages’ worth of brief reports from societies about recent activities and events. These reports serve two purposes: they allow societies who are proud of what they do to publicize their activities, and they serve as a means of communicating ideas for activities to socities that wish to strengthen their programs.

    3. WHERE TO SUBMIT

FORMAT

Your copy should be word-processed or legibly typed, double-spaced, on 8½ x 11" paper (one side only, please). Maintain a one-inch margin on all sides. Pen-and-ink corrections are acceptable as long as they are legible.

Each page of copy prepared this way will print about two-thirds of a column in ASSEMBLY. Please do not exceed two typed pages.

Paragraphs should be of moderate length (100 – 150 words). If a column contains too many short paragraphs, the result is incoherence and wasted space. Unduly long paragraphs are difficult to read.

Printouts should be double-spaced and use upper- and lowercase letters. We especially appreciate copy submitted on computer disk.

Please put your society’s heading on each submission. (Consult “‘News’ Deadlines” for due dates.)

PHOTOS

You are permitted one photo in each issue.

Hard copy photos Black-and-white or color photographs of any size are acceptable. Make sure that the photo you submit is in sharp focus and has good contrast. Photos that are very dark or very light, blurry, taken so far away that the subjects are barely distinguishable, and those that cut off tops of heads cannot be used. Captions should be brief and descriptive. If you want to identify individuals, do so with a tag taped securely to the back of the photo. Do not write on the backs of the photos.

Digital photos When submitting digital photos, please follow the guidelines at: http://www.aogusma.org/PUBS/digitalspecs.htm
