Private funding from graduates, widows, parents, friends, as well as corporations and foundations, is crucial to expanding the Margin of Excellence of the West Point experience and for building Leaders of Character for our nation.


 

Class of ’53 Plaque Unveiling Held at Mahan Hall

COLs Lammie '53 & Meyer '84

On Tuesday, 28 Oct, members of the Class of 1953 attended the unveiling of their Class gift plaque which recognized the funding of the USMA Class of 1953 Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering.

After remarks by COL(R) Robert L. McClure ’76, President and CEO of the WPAOG; COL Daniel Ragsdale ’81, Vice Dean for Education; COL(R) Francis A. Nerone ’53 Class President; and COL(R) James L. Lammie ’53 the 1st Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering--COL Fred Meyer ’84 spoke about COL Lammie and how the Chair enhances the education of the cadets. COL Meyer then asked Col Lammie to join him as they “unveiled” the new plaque in a very unique method. Hanging in front of the plaque was a piece of mortar.  COL Lammie smashed the mortar to reveal the plaque!  After the unveiling COL Ressler thanked the class for their vision and gift that will impact every cadet and the future engineers of our Army and Nation.

 


The Dedication of the
Alexander M. Haig Room

Former Secretary of State and General (Retired) Alexander M. Haig, Jr., Class of 1947, and his wife Patricia returned to West Point on Monday, 27 October 2008, for the formal dedication of the Haig Room on the sixth floor of the new Thomas Jefferson Hall Cadet Library and Learning Center. The room was named in recognition of General and Mrs. Haig’s generous gift of five million dollars to the Academy in support of academic programs.
